A recent article in Life Extensions magazine cites a report describing the dramatic decrease in nutrient content of foods grown in this country. The study compares foods grown in 1963 with those grown in 2000. Some of the decreases are enormous. The calcium content of broccoli decreased by 50%. Given a deteriorating quality of foods, it would seem only prudent to recommend vitamin and mineral supplementation for pets. We recommend using human quality formulations, both for quality assurance and the more complete formulas they offer. Many pet vitamin supplements do not include sufficient levels of critical nutrients. Vitamin D, in particular, is not sufficient in pet formulations. We recommend formulations such as Pure Encapsulations Ultranutrient. We also recommend omega fatty acids supplements. Appropriate supplementation for each individual is best determined by appropriate testing such as the Organix Profile.
